I downloaded Drupal’s recipe module (v. 5x-1.0) today, to incorporate into my web site. And I really like it, although I’ve only entered 1 recipe so far.
A little over a year ago, I’d started building my own PHP and MySQL recipe site, which focused on sharing recipes suitable to the Weight Watchers Core Plan. I initiated this project during my lay-off, then got hired and bombarded with 60-hour work weeks through the holidays, so I never got to finish integrating the recipe taxonomy or the user authentication. Without having the time to build the site out well myself, it just never really took off as I’d hoped. And, frankly, I just don’t have the time or energy to really publicize it.
So I opted to to not reinvent the wheel, and just utilize the Drupal module. I also decided to forgo a complete separate site, particularly one so narrow in focus, and just migrate the recipes into my own personal cookbook. Once I get the basic structure set up, and some initial content migrated over, I will allow other users to contribute recipes and comments — although I expect it’ll just be family and close friends.
