Our redesigned web site launched late last night, which includes an entirely new inverted e-commerce application.
Our original site was built upon a hybrid e-commerce framework (part in-house Java, and part open source PHP-based osCommerce), implemented purely for expediency’s sake to make our holiday shopping season 2007 launch date. However, this temporary solution quickly proved inflexible and difficult to maintain.
After migrating our public site to Grails earlier this year, doing away with this hybrid e-commerce solution and migrating to an entirely new Grails-based one became a top priority. Additionally, the new solution had to be inverted, allowing non-registered (anonymous) users to purchase gift cards.
Well, thanks to the magnificent leadership and coding by our senior developer extraordinaire, and to the fabulous new database architecture designed and built by yours truly, our new e-commerce platform is up and running on production.
I love that I constantly get to learn new “best practices” in my job, and working on this task with our senior developer provided many such opportunities that further advance my quest for database goddess status.
