Research Methodology

Looking to improve your Hispanic family history research techniques? FamilySearch has two excellent research-focused webinars this month, reaching both English and Spanish-speaking audiences.

Improve your Search Results in FamilySearch Hispanic Records

Are you searching for an ancestor from Latin America, Spain, or any other Spanish speaking area? This class will help you improve your search results when using the website FamilySearch.org.

I have attended RootsTech sessions taught by Debbie Gurtler, and she is a wealth of knowledge about Hispanic civil and church registrations.

Más allá de los registros indexados (“Looking Beyond Indexed Records”)

The class is designed to encourage researchers to be sure to look at the original image of a record as there can be a lot of information that wasn’t indexed that may provide a wealth of clues to help further your research.

  • Saturday, March 19, 2016 (1:00pm – 2:00pm MST)
  • Taught in Spanish, by Arturo Cuellar

Volunteer Indexing

Do you know Spanish, or are you at least familiar reading Spanish language civil and church registration documents? Consider giving back to the genealogical community by volunteering with one of the FamilySearch Spanish language indexing projects!

Spanish Records Indexing

This Indexing class will teach the basics for indexing records in Spanish. You should have a little background in reading documents in Spanish or at least know a little Spanish.

  • Wednesday,March 2, 2016 (10:00am – 11:00am  MST)
  • Taught in English, by the Indexing Team

FamilySearch has a great need for foreign language indexers. Anyone with any Spanish ability, or another any other foreign language ability, is encouraged to volunteer. Indexing classes this month are also available for Portuguese, Italian, French, and Dutch records (see: Indexing Workshops). Learn more here about FamilySearch foreign language indexing needs and available projects.
