Private Patrick Flanagan, US Army, WWI
These digital multimedia stories chronicle the World War I U.S. Army service of my great-grandfather Private Patrick Flanagan (1980-1928). Despite Patrick’s Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) being burned in the tragic 1973 fire at the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC), I have been able to reconstruct all but one and a half months of Patrick’s Army service using alternative sources and methods. Because I heavily teach this type of storytelling, I have created versions of Patrick’s story on different digital platforms as teaching examples so people can compare the tools.
