How does a Latina Leprechaun celebrate both sides of her heritage in a single hour? By teaching a Hispanic genealogy class on St. Patrick’s Day! While my corned beef and cabbage is crockpotting away at home. 🙂
The Whittier Area Genealogical Society (WAGS) requested a Hispanic-focuses class, but family historians with ancestors from anywhere in the world will benefit from this topic.
UPDATED 2/27/18: The correct day of the week is Saturday. My initial post title incorrectly stated Sunday.
Social History: Painting a Bigger Picture of Your Hispanic Ancestors’ Lives
Our ancestors’ lives did not consist of just the facts we typically look for in historical records. Cultural customs and conventions, political and economic factors, and the different communities in which they lived, worked, and worshipped impacted their everyday lives as well as the major decisions in their lives. Social history helps us develop a holistic approach to research.
NOTE: This version of the lecture has a Hispanic focus.
